Colloquium: Can Happiness Be Measured?

What does it truly mean to be happy? Is there a way to measure human happiness? What is happiness to you?

‍These questions, as ancient as they are universal, inspire the First Cineforum of the Catalan Buddhist Film Festival, an experience that combines cinema, science, and contemplative wisdom to open a deep dialogue about human well-being with our guests.

After the screening, co-director Dorottya Zurbó, Lama Tsondru, Anna Forés Miravalles, and Jordi Llompart will reflect on happiness. This unique event can be followed live from anywhere in Spain. The colloquium begins at 10 PM, and a Q&A session will be opened for both the in-person audience at the cinema and those connecting online.

Dorottya Zurbó, (1988, Hungary) is a film director and university professor in Budapest, Hungary.

She co-directed "The Happiness Agent" with Arun Bhattarai, a documentary that premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. Her first feature documentary, "The Next Guardian" (2017), was also co-directed by Arun Bhattarai, and her solo debut was "Easy Lessons" (2018).

Lama Tsondru, a pioneer of Tibetan Buddhism in Spain, founded the country's first Buddhist center in Barcelona in 1977. Since then, she has led the Samye Dzong center in Barcelona and the Kagyu Samye Dechi Ling Monastery in Santa Coloma de Farners (Girona). She has completed over 13 years of strict meditation retreat and is the invited teacher to share her knowledge on happiness, according to Buddhism.

Dr. Anna Forés Miravalles, Doctor of Philosophy and Educational Sciences and a graduate in Pedagogy from the University of Barcelona, she is the founding director of the UB-EDU1st International Chair of Neuroeducation and the invited speaker to discuss happiness and well-being, based on scientific research. Her dream is to improve education, which is why she dedicates herself to everything that contributes to it, such as resilience and neuroeducation.

‍Jordi Llompart, A journalist, filmmaker, and writer, he has published books ranging from popular science to children's stories. He is considered one of the pioneers in filming for IMAX cinemas in Spain. He has directed internationally screened documentaries and is invited to moderate the event and explore the big human questions surrounding happiness.
